A study was made to induce flowering in an “off-year” in the strictly irregularly-bearing mango cultivar ‘Langra’. Cycocel 3000 mg/l on ringed shoots produced the largest number of flower panicles (62.3%), whereas the control recorded the lowest number (8%). MH-1500 mg/l with ringing reduced the length of the shoot, increased the diameter of the shoots, and greatly reduced the vegetative growth. All the treatments produced quite good percentages of flower buds in comparison to the control, and enhanced the flowering-time. With CEPA 400 mg/l the flowering-time was enhanced by 16 days.     

Physiological and biochemical effects of glyceryl guaiacolate-thiopentone sodium anaesthesia in buffalo calves

Glyceryl guaiacolate was used with thiopentone sodium for general anaesthesia in 10 clinically healthy male buffalo calves. When the animals were in the stage of surgical anaesthesia, there was marked hypotension and tachycardia along with a decrease in central venous pressure, tidal volume, partial pressure of oxygen in arterial blood and venous plasma potassium. Hyperglycaemia was another consistent feature. The changes in the acid base status were mild and inconsistent.     

Detection of goat pox antigen and antibody by the counter immunoelectrophoresis test

Summary The counterimmunoelectrophoresis (CIE) test was standardised for the detection of goat pox antigen and antibody using inactivated antigens. The chloroform inactivated and live antigens were equally sensitive for detection of goat pox precipitins. The precipitinogens of goat pox virus (GPV) were found to be soluble in nature. The CIE test was quick as well as more sensitive than the agar gel precipitation test for detection of GPV antibody/antigen. The CIE employing inactivated antigen has been used for the first time in the detection of GPV antibodies/antigens.

Deteccion Del Antigeno Y Anticuerpos De Viruela Caprina Mediate La Prueba De Contrainmunoelectroforesis

Resumen Se estandarizó la prueba de contrainmunoelectroforesis, para la detección del antígeno y anticuerpos del virus de la viruela caprina, usando antígenos inactivados. El antígeno inactivado con cloroformo y el antígeno vivo, fueron igualmente sensitivos para la detección de precipitinas de viruela caprina. Los precipitógenos del virus de la viruela caprina se encontraron que eran solubles. La prueba de contrainmunoelectroforesis fue más rápida y más sensitiva que la precipitación agar gelatina para la detección de anticuerpos/antígenos del virus de la viruela caprina. La prueba de contrainmunoelectroforesis con antígeno inactivado ha sido utilizada por vez primera en la detección de anticuerpos/antígenos del virus de la viruela caprina.

Detection De l'Antigene Et De l'Anticorps Variole Caprine Par Un Test De Contrimmuno-Electrophorese

Résumé Le test de contrimmuno-électrophorèse (CIE) a été standardisé pour la détection de l'antigène et de l'anticorps variole caprine avec des antigènes inactivés. Les antigènes vivants et inactivés par le chloroforme sont de sensibilité équivalente pour la détection des précipitines variole caprine. On a montré que ces précipitogènes du virus variole caprine (VVC) étaient de nature soluble. Le CIE est rapide et plus sensible que le test de précipitation en gélose pour la détection des antigènes et anticorps VVC. C'est la première fois que le CIE mettant en oeuvre un antigène inactivé a été utilisé.

     

Esterase, malate, and lactate dehydrogenases activity in murine neuroblastoma

Mouse neuroblastoma tumors have only the fifth isozyme band (A(4)) of lactate dehydrogenase, whereas this band is missing in the brain which contained four other bands of lactate dehydrogenase. The alpha-esterase isozyme patterns of tumors, kidney, and brain are similar except that there is an additional slowest-moving form of esterase in all tumor tissues. The malate dehydrogenase pattern is not altered in any of the tissues.     

Effect of a Winter Cereal or Legume Crop on the Yield and Nutrient Uptake by Summer Maize/Cowpea Fodder

A field experiment conducted at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi brought out that summer maize green fodder yield was 31.8 t/ha to 34.1 t/ha, while that of cowpea fodder was only 15.5 to 16 t/ ha. Maize fodder and crude protein yield and NPK uptake was more after a winter legume (lentil) than after a winter cereal (wheat).     

Available Moisture in Relation to Water-stable Aggregates of Two Forest Soils

Available moisture release characteristics for two well aggregated clayey forest soils of West Bengal (INDIA) were determined with respect to different-sized water-stable aggregates. In situ determination of higher range of available moisture differed appreciably from classic 1/3 bar moisture retention, for the soils. Release of moisture at lower tensions (0.33 > bar) were mainly governed by the inter-aggregate pore size distribution while that at higher tension chiefly attributed to the texture of aggregates i.e. the intra-aggregate pore size distribution. The difference in moisture releasing capacity particularly in the range 0.33—15.0 bar amongst different sized aggregates, was due mainly to varying amount of clay and organic carbon in different-sized aggregates.     

Structure—activity relationships for some organotin molluscicides

Bioassay data are reported for 12 organotin compounds, R₃SnX, against the adult snail, Biomphalaria glabrata, an intermediate host of schistosomiasis. The relationship between the molluscicidal activity and the nature of the R and X groups in the organotin compounds is discussed, as well as the possible mode of toxic action of these compounds.
